“Decoding non-human communication is an enormous challenge. It will only be solved through interdisciplinary collaboration in a wide range of fields, from machine learning to neuroscience, encompassing ethology and biology."

Katie Zacarian, CEO of Earth Species Project

Aquatic Conversations is part of on-going collaboration between Studio Antoine Bertin, computer scientist Sarah Keen (Earth Species Project), and bioacousticians Valeria Vergara & Jaclyn Aubin, exploring the conversations of cetaceans as mapped by artificial intelligence.

Through sculptural propositions and immersive sound compositions, the work invites audiences to experience the abstract mathematical spaces a machine creates when mapping the communications of other-than-human species.

In 2024, a first public presentation of work in progress took place at the CurieuCity Festival in P.A.R.T.S Brussels, curated by Ohme: an intimate live experience blending storytelling, data visualisations, light atmospheres, and tactile sculptures of beluga vocalisations.
